Around this time last year I was debating on getting the Wilfred Diamond Mosaic Blanket Scarf from Aritzia. You couldn’t walk two blocks in Vancouver without seeing someone wearing one, it had become part of the Female Vancouverite Uniform™ along with Lululemon leggings. But $85 is a bit steep for a piece of fabric that you wrap around yourself. Even if it is reversible (so that’s practically two scarves in one) and 100% wool.
So, as usual, I lusted over pictures of the scarves on Pinterest. I found a nice neutral one (similar to the “Wind” colour version of the Aritzia one) from Dynamite for $20 that was made from a soft nylon-y material to fill the blanket scarf shaped void in my materialistic heart but I still was scrolling longingly through social media tags looking at the Aritzia one. Also partaking in the in-person equivalent, staring at them whenever I saw someone sporting one. A bit more creepy.
I had decided my favourite was the forest green and mauve-y taupe variation called “Quarry”. As green is my favourite colour and the other tone was very neutral I felt it was the best of everything. (Balsamine and Black were the two runners up).
After Christmas they went on sale. I mean, $75 is still a large chunk of change but when Aritzia is involved, any kind of sale puts a bit of brainwashing power over you. Or me, at least.
On my next Pinterest scroll-session, I found a couple images by Bethany Sara sporting the Quarry colour of the blanket scarf in question. She changed her site shortly after into a portfolio featuring her photography, and it is now password protected. But her pictures still exist on Pinterest, and thank goodness because she is precious 🙂
The pictures were so stunning and pretty soon after, I placed the order (as well as for the Ionic Cape… I am a trend following sheep, I know)
I admit that right after I took the financial plunge I had a twinge of buyers remorse. $80 for a scarf?! Seriously?!? I mean, given, it’s a super beautiful, super soft, super warm, super versatile scarf. But there’s a lot of other things I could get for that amount of money.
That buyers remorse completely evaporated when I brought it to Connecticut with me this past May. I wore it on the plane (you can check some scarf cameos in my photo-an-hour post from that day) and boy was it ever a game changer. Not only does it look super cute, it keeps you really warm (that wool, man!) and can be used as a blanket or a pillow. Since not everyone and their two sisters and seventeen-year-old cousin doesn’t have one of these over on the east coast I got SO many complements. It’s a beautiful scarf and I definitely recommend grabbing one if they go on sale again at Boxing Day. Yes, they’re definitely a huge investment… but definitely worth it!
So when I saw this prompt was one for the Blogtember Challenge, this picture came to mind! Yes, I’m late to that challenge, but it is a two-birds-one-stone situation with the “Santa Claus-et Favourites” prompt for the December style challenge I’m doing this month! Obviously I’m very new to the whole outfit blogging/ photography game but here’s my take on Bethany’s outfit!
This scarf is definitely one of my most favourite things that I own! What are your closet favourites? I’d love to hear from you!
Thanks for checking out this post! I hope you’re having a happy holiday so far! 😀
