Happy Canada Day!

Happy 152nd Birthday to my homeland, Canada!

It’s been awhile since I made an alternate music video, and since I have ten provinces worth of footage that is now over two years old, I thought it was time to do something with it! The first thought that popped into my head was the Canadian version of “This Land is Your Land”, mostly because it was the last song I learned on the piano before I quit taking lessons haha.

I would like to add a friendly disclaimer that I am aware of the problematic aspects of this song in saying that the land was made for “you and me” considering the brutal aspects of Canada’s history: the treatment of First Nations peoples, internment camps, residential schools and other such travesties in the history of this country. In addition, the themes of possession and ownership add to the current issues we are facing with abusing and taking the land (and waterways!) for granted. I just want to put out that I did this without any malicious intent and with only the intention of paying homage to a classic folk song, the hours I dreaded practicing piano, the beautiful country I call home.

With all this considered, I hope you enjoy this video! Thanks for watching and Happy Canada Day!
