When I found out that Simply Earth’s Essential Oil Recipe Box for July was going to be themed as an at-home salon package, I was stoked. If you know me, you know that I am a sucker for anything related to hair and nail care, so finding out that I was going to get some DIY recipes for these categories was very exciting. If you have not seen my previous unboxings for the #eorecipebox, you can find them HERE.
Simply Earth’s recipe box is a monthly subscription box that provides you with four essential oils and extras to make the recipes included in a curated, themed box. The oils included in this month’s box are:
Palmarosa: Often used as an adulteration of rose oil because of its similar aroma at a much lower price, Palmarosa offers a variety of benefits for the skin and emotional well being. ($13.99 USD)
Rosemary: Rosemary is a popular herb that can be found in most pantries across the world, but its uses are not limited to the kitchen. Its essential oil can be used to relieve sore and tight muscles while at the same time providing an uplifting and clearing effect on the mind. ($11.99 USD)
Spearmint: Spearmint was traditionally used to scent bath water and was used to aid digestion. Today it is commonly used as flavoring agent especially in gum and toothpaste, but its essential oil can also help those with queasy stomachs or in need of a focus boost. ($12.99 USD)
Fit Blend: Fit Essential Oil Blend helps you resist snacking between meals. ($15.99 USD)
(Descriptions are from Simply Earth’s website)
If you’re not interested in the subscription box, you can also purchase these oils individually at the prices listed. Alternatively, the new Ocean Scents set also includes Rosemary and Spearmint, if you would like to check that out… I have a post about it HERE.
The extras included in the box are bases for shampoo and conditioner, as well as an amber squeeze bottle that you can purchase individually for $1.99 USD. I believe the intended use for the squeeze bottle is for the “Nails Without Fail” oil recipe but as an avid cuticle oil user, I would recommend using a roll-on bottle instead (you get six in the Big Bonus Box which I unboxed HERE– it’s free with your first month’s subscription!) and storing the excess oil in the squeeze bottle for refills.
I have been really getting into using my diffuser so I was really excited to try the “Salon Day” blend for this month. As promised, the mixture of Spearmint, Rosemary, and Fit is a fresh pick-me-up reminiscent of walking past the open doors of spas and fancy salons. In the pre-Covid days, of course.
The other recipe I made was the Fit Roll On. You can actually purchase this product pre-made from the Simply Earth website for $9.99 HERE, but it is super easy to make with the Fit blend and almond oil. To be honest, I’m pretty skeptical of any oils that promise to “curb hunger” or “reduce snacking” and am 100% on the DON’T INGEST ESSENTIAL OILS soapbox (for real though, don’t do it), so I don’t know how effective this will be but I’m keeping it at my desk to try it out. Even if there is some placebo effect or whatever, if the scent of this oil blend does help keep me from snacking/ a binge sesh, I’m willing to give it a fair shot!
For $39 USD (+ $9.99 shipping for Canadians) a month, the Essential Oil Recipe Box by Simply Earth is a fun way to slowly grow your oil collection as well as get multiple DIYs to create at home! Plus, if you use the code EHDREEAHNAHFREE (yeah, it’s a lot of “E”s haha) a $40 USD gift card will be added to your cart for future purchases!
Thank you so much to Simply Earth for gifting this box to me in exchange for my review and to you for reading this post! If you have any questions about SE or their recipe box, let me know – I am always happy to help!
